October 01, 2006 IFMA-Northern Alberta Chapter Newsletter - The Brian Issue.
Profile - Brian Stephenson - Just Who is Brian? Mr. Brian Stephenson is the Manager, Corporate Real Estate, North America for Stantec and deals with strategic planning, acquisitions, financial, project, and construction management for approximately 100 locations in North America. He enjoys dealing with people all across North America because there is always, always, something going on.
As for hobbies, Brian likes to build things, just about anything and his favorite tool is a wet tile saw. His golf game is on the up an up and a future career if the opportunity arose would be that as a Golf Caddy on the LPGA Tour. He could even drive the tour in his hot rod ('52 Ford Truck) but that may take a little time away from his three kids (Jake, Ryan and Lola).
He does carry a "little black book" of contacts (business contacts….people) and this falls in line with the challenges of day related to resourcing, resourcing and resourcing - that book is a resource.
Brian's favorite school subjects were Math and Algebra and I did see a couple of his doodles (drawings) and must say that some additional course work in that category may be in order.
And finally - why did Brian join IFMA? Quite simply to meet peers and learn from them.
There you have it - Brian Stephenson, IFMA NAC President, Manager of North America, Truck Hot Rodder, holder of the Wet Tile Saw and very proud of his children.
We are glad to have you on board as President of the NAC and look forward to your leadership.

Bissell Centre - Moonlight Bay on Lake Wabumun
A news article in the Edmonton Journal (August 29, 2006) noted that the Bissell Centre was continuing on with their planned renovations of the 50-year-old kitchen, dining hall and recreation hall at Moonlight Bay. As many of you will recall the NAC won the 1998 IFMA Small Chapter Award for Community Service based on our work in replacing cabins at the summer camp. So to all of you that contributed to the "Spring Build" events at Moonlight Bay please know that your good work has helped the Bissell Centre and a whole lot of kids. Good work all and thanks Tim for bringing this good news to our attention.

Community Affiliation Report - Edmonton Food Bank
Efforts are proceeding with regard to our affiliation with the Edmonton Food Bank and you can expect to hear about the progress at future NAC meetings.

The Editor's Word:
As you are reading this newsletter approximately 5000 facility management types from all across the globe are in the process of gathering in San Diego, California for World Work Place 2006 to partake in education, knowledge building and networking events. There are even to be a few members of our fine Chapter in attendance at this learning exposition and I will endeavor to have them report on their experiences in the January 2007 edition of this newsletter. You can lead a Facility Manager to a World Work Place but can you make them write?
